Arthur Lodge

Arthur Lodge Sadly we share the news of the loss of a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and friend. Arthur Lodge died peacefully at the Pines Bracebridge in the early morning of November 11, 2010. Arthur was born in Hamilton January 17, 1925 to Thomas and Dolly Lodge. Art joined the army upon graduation from grade 13 taking his first year of engineering at McMaster University. He graduated from Brockville as a lieutenant and returned to Brantford as a training officer of army recruits. He married Ruth Stevenson March 24, 1951 and later finished his degree at Western University. Arthur taught briefly in elementary schools in Hamilton then spent 20 years at Hamilton Teacher's College (OTEC). Art and Ruth raised three children; Kathryn, David and Steven. He finished his career with 5 years at the MOET block in Toronto working for the Special Projects branch of the Ministry of Education. He lived with Ruth and his family in homes in Stoney Creek, Ancaster, Paris and Bracebridge. Arthur volunteered for many organizations including the Drug Addiction Research Foundation, Canadian Lung Association, Suicide Prevention Bureau and Telecare Hamilton. He was well respected as a public speaker and often took part in worship services as a member of Marshall Memorial United Church in Ancaster , St. Paul's United Church in Paris and Bracebridge United. Art loved to sing and shared in church choir work, as member of the Brant Men of Song and as a songleader at the Pines in Bracebridge. He played and coached many sports with special interest in soccer, volleyball and baseball. Art will be forever remembered and missed by his loving wife Ruth, Steven and Mary, David, Kathryn and Jack, as well as grandchildren Robyn, Tobin, Samantha and Travis, great-grandson Catcher and countless friends and fellow educators.
