In Loving Memory of Barbara Carolynn Nangle (Mills)
May 15, 1938 – December 2, 2024
With profound sadness and abundant gratitude for a well-lived life, we announce Barbara Carolynn Nangle's passing on December 2, 2024, at South Muskoka Memorial Hospital. Born on May 15, 1938, in Toronto to Eunice (Wright) and Ernest Mills, Barbara was their beloved only child and grew up in a devout Anglican home, where her lifelong faith was lovingly nurtured.
Barbara was the devoted wife of the late Robert Nangle (d. 1994) and the cherished mother of Glenn Robert Nangle (Karen McCarrol, d.2019) and Barbara-Dale McDougall (Leonard McDougall). She was an adoring grandmother to Stephanie Hern (d. 2000), Stephen Hern (d. 2016), and Katelynn Nangle (Marty Naulls).
A passionate learner, Barbara earned her Bachelor of Arts by correspondence in her 40s and, after being widowed in her late 50s, pursued her Master of Divinity. She was ordained in Timmins in July 2001, dedicating herself to ministry in Sudbury, Hearst, and Waswanipi, Quebec. She often spoke warmly of the community and friends she served during her time at St. Barnabas' Anglican Church in Waswanipi. Eventually, she served as an honorary Reverend at St.
Thomas Anglican Church in Bracebridge, where her wisdom, kindness, and devotion to God were a source of inspiration to all who knew her.
Barbara's heart was always open to those in need, and her hands were rarely still. She knitted hundreds of teddy bears, which were donated to comfort children around the world, bringing love and hope to places such as Africa, Guatemala, and Ukraine.
Her faith and compassion defined her life, as did her commitment to her family, church, and communities. Barbara will be deeply missed by all who had the blessing of knowing her, but her memory and the light she brought into the world will endure forever.
Visitation will be held from 10-11am, with a Service to Celebrate Barbara’s life at 11am on Friday, December 6th at St. Thomas’ Anglican Church in Bracebridge, Ontario, followed by a reception in the church hall. Interment in the spring at St. Peter's Anglican Church to rest with her husband. If you wish to make a donation in Barbara’s name, please consider donating to St. Thomas' Anglican Church.
