Bernard Gloster passed away peacefully at the Bracebridge Memorial Hospital on April 19, 2024, just weeks before his 94th birthday.
Bernard spent much of his early life serving for the British Navy as a minesweeper. He then moved on to pursue a career as an Engineer until his retirement when he enjoyed many years and many adventures with his wife, Margaret.
Bernard had a great passion for arts, music, and travel but he was never happier than when he was with his family.
Bernard is survived by his loving wife of 72 years, Margaret Gloster, his sons Richard (Karen) and Ashley (Trish), and his daughters Karen and Beryl. Grandchildren, Christopher, Kevin, Nadine, Jeremy, Dillon, Blake, Amber, Rebecca, and his Great-grandchildren Julia, Jasmine, Jacob, Andrew, Noah, Owen, Hailey, Remi, Clayton, and Henry. He was predeceased by his son Neil and his grandsons Daniel and Russell.
Bernie, Bernard, Grandpa, Great Grandpa, and Father. He had many names and was universally loved by all. He outlived his siblings by 40 years and loved life to the fullest. He by far was the one person who taught me more than anyone else in my life, how to travel, how to play an instrument, what the best books were to read, how to treat people, and how to love. He will be forever missed and eternally loved. He was a renaissance man, he fished he danced he sang he played multiple instruments he could recite poetry and verse and he was the most interesting man in the room, even when the room was empty. He served his country in war and earned many medals for his service.
RIP Papa -Ashley Gloster
He was my father, but everyone called him Grandpa.
He was naturally funny and was always willing to educate.
He was a man who was loved by all and will be greatly missed.
-Richard Gloster
If I could build a stairway,
I tell you what I’d do
I’d build the stairs to heaven
So, I could visit you

Thank you, Dad, for teaching me
“Good, better best,
Never let it rest,
Until your good is better
And your better’s best”
