Brian Binder

January 17, 1935 — February 17, 2018

BINDER, Brian John The family of Brian John Binder is very sad to advise of his passing. Brian passed peacefully in his 84th year on Saturday, February 17, 2018 in Bracebridge following a short illness. Brian leaves his wife of 62 years Alice (nee Bradley), sister Irene, daughter Beverley Gail (Robin), sons Bradley (Laurie) and Sean (Willow), grandchildren Nicole, Terri, Ashley, Paul, Ryan, Katie, Brian and Aaron, great grandchildren Jessica, Keith, Sawyer, Everly, Lawson and London and his many nieces and nephews. Brian was predeceased by his father, Hector, an RCAF Lancaster crew member who was fatally shot down over France in 1944 and by his mother, Rose, who passed away in 1996. Brian enjoyed a good life and was a man of great intelligence, passion, humour and above all integrity. Growing up in Toronto and following his father's footsteps in aviation Brian earned his pilot's licence at age 17. He pursued a successful career as an employee of Canadian National Railways for 32 years. Brian developed a large number of friends along his journey keeping in touch with many throughout his life from both his youth and work. At age 19 he met the love of his life, Alice May Bradley of Gravenhurst, marrying shortly thereafter. They raised their family mostly in Whitby, Ontario. Together Brian and Alice created a loving home environment where friends and family were always welcome. Later in life he very much became a student of WWII history, especially the history surrounding the Lancaster bomber. Brian and Alice travelled to Brian's father's burial site in France on several occasions where the local residents treated them very specially in honour of his father's ultimate sacrifice. He also experienced many enjoyable hours boating on the Muskoka Lakes with family and friends which continued right up to this past fall. Very special thanks to the health professionals at South Muskoka Memorial Hospital whose care and expertise is simply outstanding. Visitation shall take place from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 24th followed by a service in commemoration of Brian's life at 2:00 p.m. both at Reynold's Funeral Home, 1 Mary Street, Bracebridge. Reception to immediately follow. In lieu of flowers donations to Canadian Heart & Stroke Foundation or South Muskoka Memorial Hospital Foundation (Bracebridge Hospital) are welcomed.
