David James McCourt

d. September 25, 2024

Bracebridge

David James McCourt, born on March 12, 1933, in Belfast, Ireland, left this world on September 25, 2024, in Bracebridge, Ontario. Dave's life was a life well lived. He was a beacon of joy and laughter, embodying a love for life that touched all who knew him.

In his younger days, he was an avid water skier; he taught anyone who wanted to learn and found immense joy in boating, making unforgettable memories on the shimmering waters of many lakes. He loved camping with his family and spent many a weekend at Bon Echo or Kilbear Provincial Parks. His passion for the outdoors culminated in his proudest achievement – building his own house on Lake Vernon in Muskoka, where he lived out his days surrounded by the wilderness he cherished so deeply.

David’s life was enriched by his love for family. He adored his three daughters, Colleen, Karen, and Kim, and took immense pride in being their father. His legacy continues through his ten grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren, who will carry forward the love and laughter he bestowed upon them. He will forever be missed by his long-term companion Valerie. David's heart was kind, and his cheeky, impish sense of humour, coupled with his well-known sarcasm, made him a beloved figure in the lives of those around him.

Education for David was less about traditional schools and more about life experiences—he often reminisced about the simpler joys, like sharing A&W buddy burgers with his loved ones. His stubbornness was often met with laughter, as it was tempered by his caring nature, leaving a mark on the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know him.

David’s visitation will be held at Reynolds Funeral Home - Turner Chapel in Bracebridge, Ontario, on October 6, 2024. Friends and family are invited to pay their respects from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM and again from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM.

As we say goodbye to David James McCourt, let us remember him for the love he shared, the laughter he created, and the countless memories he left on the rippling waters of life. His spirit will forever be etched in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him.
