Derek Alvin Andrew Tibbel
1968 - 2024
We are deeply saddened to announce Derek Tibbel passed away suddenly at his residence in Ramara, Ontario, on Tuesday December 10th 2024 at the age of 56.
Derek is survived his mother Faye Tibbel (nee Hammell) and predeceased by his father Wayne Tibbel (October 31st 2024). He was a cherished sibling to Terri Tibbel-Mosher (Bruce Mosher) of Calgary, Alberta and Dwayne Tibbel (Sherry Peters) of Ullswater, Township of Muskoka Lakes. He was the beloved Uncle to Allison Fraser (Jon Fraser) of Port Carling, Ontario, Kara Lucas (Matt Lucas) of Shawnigan Lake, British Columbia and Trisha Tibbel (Don Sutherland) of Shawnigan Lake, British Columbia, Jon Mosher (Tianna Ellis) of Calgary, Alberta and Liam Mosher (Lauren Paquette) of Toronto, Ontario. He was the Great Uncle of Owen (Bridgett MacKay), Scarlett and Abigail Fraser of Port Carling.
Derek grew up in Ullswater Ontario and attended Watt Public School and Bracebridge and Muskoka Lakes Secondary School.
He played many sports with his favourites being soccer and hockey. Derek was an ardent skidoo rider (a passion he shared with his brother Dwayne) and spent many exciting trips enjoying the trails of Ontario and Quebec. He always kept his love for hockey, soccer and motorcycles.
While attending school, Derek worked as a cook at McDonald’s Restaurant in Bracebridge, at Fraser’s Home Hardware in Port Carling and at the Township of Muskoka Lakes in Port Carling in the Parks and Cemeteries Department.
Derek graduated from Bracebridge and Muskoka Lakes Secondary School in 1986. He then graduated from Georgian College of Applied Arts and Technology (Barrie Campus - Law and Security program of study). He later graduated from Aylmer Police College in 1989.
He served as a member of the York Regional Police (Newmarket and Markham Detachments). He was recognized as York Regional Police Officer of the year in 1993 and 1994. Derek left the York Regional Police Service in 2002.
Following that, he worked at carpentry and the construction of homes working on the James Street Place, The new Pines Home for the Aged and for Paul Greer Construction (Raymond). He then started his own construction business in Calgary Alberta which was called Tibbs Construction primarily working on garage packages and cabinetry. He returned back to his first love Muskoka and worked for Fenner Dunlop in Bracebridge Muskoka until he suffered from health problems in 2014 when he moved back to High Lake, Muskoka and then to Ramara, Ontario.
Derek throughout his life had vacationed in Banff, Vancouver, the Philippines and the Dominican Republic.
Derek will be interred at the Public Township of Muskoka Lakes Cemetery in Ullswater Ontario with a private burial in the family plot and a celebration of life will be held later with his recently deceased father on June 21st 2025.
Rest in Peace Derek. We will miss you always.
