Donald Frederick Foster

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Donald Frederick Foster, who passed away peacefully on February 28, 2025, at Andy’s House Hospice, surrounded by his family. He was 81 years old.

Don was a dedicated and proud member of the 1st Independent Signal Squadron, later known as 705 (Ham) Communication Squadron, serving from 1959 to 1982 and retiring as a Master Warrant Officer and Squadron Sergeant Major. His service to others extended beyond the military—he worked as a paramedic with Superior Ambulance in Hamilton from 1974 to 1984, always ready to lend a helping hand, even delivering a baby during his time there.

After taking early retirement, Don and his beloved wife, Mae, pursued their dream of owning the Talbot Trail Restaurant in Nelles Corners. For 10 wonderful years, they welcomed friends, old and new, into their establishment, creating a place filled with warmth and good times. Upon selling the restaurant, they truly embraced retirement together, enjoying life and each other to the fullest.

Don’s kindness, generosity, and unwavering love for his family will never be forgotten. He was predeceased by his dear wife, Mae, and his parents, Donald and Glenna. He leaves behind his cherished sons, Tim Moxam and Geoff Foster, and his adored grandchildren, Cam and Kathy Foster. Don is also survived by his loving sister, Sheila Thornberry.

Honoring Don’s wishes, cremation has taken place, and he will be reunited with Mae later this spring. A Celebration of Life will be held at the Royal Canadian Legion, 168 Muskoka Road, Bracebridge on Saturday, March 22nd from 1-4pm.
