1925 - 2024
With hearts filled with love, gratitude, and deep sadness we announce the passing of our mother, Doris Aileen Knowles (nee Slocombe), in her 98th year.
Doris arrived in Muskoka from Port Dover in the early 1950s to work as a public health nurse, travelling throughout the district to offer healthcare to families and seniors. She met our father, local business entrepreneur Stan Knowles (1925-2018), on the tennis court, and once they were married they raised four loving children—Robin, Marc, David, and Lori—first on Aubrey St. and later on John St. in Bracebridge. Together this dynamic, intrepid couple owned and operated Knowles Plumbing, a ski school and ski shop at Rainbow Ridge, and later the Curlew Ski Club near Huntsville.
Kind, loving, curious, and wise, Doris loved to ski, travel, bake pies, and plant trees around their cottage property on Lake of Bays. She was a business woman, an adventurer, a devoted wife, a loving mother/grandmother, and a brave soul who always put others ahead of herself. Plus, she loved chocolate-peanut-butter ice cream.
Doris leaves behind daughter Robin Clipsham (Michael), son Marc Knowles (Diane), son David Knowles (Suzanne), daughter Lori Knowles (Peter), and sister Carolyn Gibbs (Tom), as well as 10 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. We shall hold her in our heart, always.
Thank you to Dr. S. Whynot and the staff at South Muskoka Memorial Hospital. And a special thank you to the staff at Andy’s House for their considerate care.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in her name to Hospice Muskoka, Andy's House in Port Carling, Ontario. https://www.hospicemuskoka.com/donate Personal condolences and messages may be shared at www.reynoldsfuneral.com
