In Loving Memory Dr. George Arden Low Peacefully on July 12, 2013 in Gravenhurst, Ontario his daughter Barbara and his step-daughter Jamie by his side. George was born in Winnipeg June 2, 1921 raised in Vancouver by his feisty mom Helen. He graduated in 1946 from U of T Faculty of Medicine. When a resident of Sunnybrook Hospital he met the love of his life Nurse Mary Margaret Bradt. They married on April 19, 1952. George was a medical pioneer at Scarborough General Hospital. He was one of two Internists invited to be on staff at its opening in 1956. He was Director of the first departments of Nuclear Medicine and Oncology in Scarborough. George held three fellowships - Internal Medicine, Nuclear Medicine and Bone Densitometry from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. His medical career spanned 65 wonderful years. George had a great love for the outdoors and had fond memories of camping trips across Canada in the 70's. In 1972 George and Mary built their own paradise, on the shores of beautiful Lake Muskoka. He was in his glory there, chopping wood, gardening, sailing and cruising the lakes in his Ditchburn boat The Mary Arden. He loved living in Muskoka and was active in Rotary and sang in the choir at St. Joseph's. George had travelled the world, including: China, New Zealand, Australia, Africa South America and Greenland. He was happiest, however, at the cottage with family and friends. He will be remembered for his infectious laugh, his intellectual curiosity, his lifelong passion for learning and his thirst for knowledge. George was predeceased by his beloved wife, Mary, in 1997. He was happy to find love again with Nora Kay (nee Quinn) whom he married in 1999. He was predeceased by Nora Kay, in 2007. He will be missed by his children: Dr. Catherine Low (Kaz) Christine Low, (George) Michael Low (Jo-Ann), Jacqueline (Robert) and Barbara (Rory). He was loved by his grandchildren: Allison and Amelia Burns; Timothy, Allister and Sarah Graham; Rosalynn Thornton; Emily and Erica MacTavish. George was predeceased by his brother Robert and survived by his sister Margaret (Peggy) Merritt. He will be missed by his beloved sister-in-law and brother-in-law Barbara and Dr. Alick Little and by his friend Mike Drysdale . George was loved by Nora Kay's children: Richard, Jamie, Mark, Stephen (predeceased), Janice, Jude, Margo and Megan Tate and their families. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 16 from 2 -4 p.m. and 7- 9 p.m. at Reynolds Funeral Home "Turner Chapel" in Bracebridge. Funeral Mass will be held at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Gravenhurst on Wednesday, July 17, 2013 at 11 o'clock. Memorial donations may be made to the Rotary Club of Bracebridge. Special thanks to the caring staff at Granite Ridge Retirement Residence, We'll miss you, Dad.
