Edgar Miles

Edgar Stuart (Bud) Miles B.Com., U of T, 4T2 1919-2011 Bud died peacefully at the Pines Long Term Care Facility in Bracebridge, Ontario on November 25th, 2011, following a long illness. He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Sylvia Devine Miles; his four children (from a previous marriage) and their families: Janet (Paul Ritvo), their children Sarah and Christopher; Paul (Kathryn Field), their children Brett and Ryan; Stephen (Suzanne Crothers), their children Marianne, J.P., and John; and Carol (Andrew Cohen), and their children Benjamin, Rachel and Nathaniel. He is also survived by his brother Donald Sandfield Miles, his sister Helen Arnaud Miles, and his sister-in-law Barbara (Hugh) Miles. He is predeceased by his parents, Edgar Stuart and Janet Sandfield (McIntyre) Miles; and his brother Hugh Harrison Miles. Bud graduated from the University of Toronto in 1942 with a Bachelor of Commerce degree. He served in WWII with the Royal Canadian Air Force, Eastern Air Command as a Navigator from 1941 to 1945, leaving with the rank of Squadron Leader. He was Mentioned In Despathches. In 1945 Bud returned to Toronto where he was asked by Charles F.W. Burns to join the Investment firm, Burns Bros and Denton Ltd., to initiate their Research Department. He became a Director in 1951 and subsequently Chairman of the Executive Committee from 1971 to 1976. Bud' s other business affiliations included the Toronto Financial Analysts; The Ticker Club; the National Club (Member). The Toronto Stock Exchange, (Governor and Chairman); Ontario Securities Commission (Member); the Becker Milk Co. Ltd., (Director); and the Toronto Hunt, (Member and President). With great appreciation, the family thanks Dr. John Richardson and the entire staff of The Pines for their superb care of Bud during his stay. Donations in Bud's memory may be made to the Pines Long Term Care Facility, 98 Pine Street, Bracebridge, Ontario P1L 1N5; the Heart and Stroke Foundation, or a charity of your choice. Cremation and a private family service will take place, as Bud requested. Arrangements entrusted to Reynolds Funeral Home "Turner Chapel" in Bracebridge 1877-806-2257.
