Edward Sutherland

Sutherland, Edward Leroy Edward Leroy Sutherland passed away on August 20, 2015 in Etobicoke, Ontario at the age of 85. Ted was loved and will be greatly missed by his wife Ruth Sutherland, his children Edward, Stephanie (Paul Newall) and Thomas, his grandchildren Katherine, Colette, John, Andrew and Alexander. He was predeceased by his parents James and Ellen Sutherland and his siblings Charles, Eleanor, Marion, Donald and Gordon. Ted is lovingly remembered by his nieces and nephews: Paul Wroe; Judy Neukumeter; Robin, Deanna, Brian, John and Dan Sutherland; John Sutherland and Dianne McGregor; JoAnne Lawlor, Robert, Craig and James Terry; David Martiniuk and Jane Terry. Ted was a proud graduate of the University of Toronto Class of 1952 in Civil Engineering. He started his career with the Ontario Ministry of Transportation, followed by decades of increasing responsibilities with McAlpine Engineering building subways, bridges and other infrastructure in the Toronto area. Ted loved to travel with his wife and family and was an avid reader. He spent more than eight decades in the Gravenhurst, Beaumaris, Milford Bay and Bracebridge areas. For more than thirty of those years, Ted looked forward to summers at the cottage, enjoying family and friends and planning and executing a host of projects. His turquoise 1965 Peterborough boat made many tips to a favourite destination "boat beach". Friends will be received at Reynolds Funeral Home ‘Turner Chapel', 1 Mary St. Bracebridge, Ontario, on Wednesday, August 26, 2015 from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. The funeral service will be held in the chapel on Thursday, August 27, 2015 at 11:00 a.m., followed by interment at St. Mark's Cemetery, Milford Bay. Friends are welcome to join the family for refreshments following the burial at the Milford Bay Community Centre.
