After a brief illness, Ed passed away in the evening of Wednesday, February 16, 2022, at South Muskoka Memorial Hospital, in his 83rd year.
Beloved husband and best friend, for 61 years, to Lois (nee Christie). Cherished father of Stewart (Laura) Ranft, and Lyn Hunt. Loving grandfather of Mitchell, Emily, and Kaitlyn Ranft, and Christie Hunt. Proud great grandfather of Myles and Cedar Ranft. Brother-in-law of Gwen (Doug) Johnston.
Ed grew up in Neath, South Wales, where he enjoyed playing soccer which led to his lifelong passion for the sport. As an active member in the Scouts, Ed first came to Canada in 1955 representing Wales in the Annual World Scout Jamboree at Niagara-on-the-Lake. Upon his return home, his enthusiasm for Canada resulted in his parents immigrating the following year.
Once in Canada, Ed started working for the Bank of Nova Scotia. This began a very successful banking career for the next 32 years and where he met the love of his life, Lois Christie. Ed later became a business consultant and part owner in Mid Ontario Freightliner truck dealership.
Ed also developed a great love for the game of golf and in recent years enjoyed playing at Kirrie Glen with friends.
Ed always had a positive outlook on life, with a genuine interest in all the people he encountered. He got great delight out of teasing, playing jokes and making others laugh and smile. Ed was always helpful and accommodating, thinking about others, always willing to offer help wherever he could.
Ed will be dearly missed by his family and many friends.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
Many thanks and appreciation to Dr. Gleeson and the nursing staff at South Muskoka Memorial Hospital for their professional and compassionate care of our loved one.
