Frederick Berday

March 1, 1927 — November 5, 2018

Fred Berday, 91, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Monday, November 5, 2018 at the South Muskoka Memorial Hospital. Beloved husband of Barbara and dear father of Greg, Salem (Patricia), Susanne (Peter), Kareen (Rory) and Ines (Robert). Grandfather of Caitlyn, Curtis, Sydney, Michael, Nikolas, Kristopher (Adrienne), Aaron and the late Matthew and great-grandfather of Micah and Aiden. Also survived by loving nieces and nephews. Brother of the late Marion and Richard.

Fred was an entrepreneur, artist, poet and an amazing dancer who spent much of his life in Geraldton, Ontario where he owned several businesses. He retired in 1990 and, with his family, moved to Bracebridge, Ontario where he volunteered at the hospital for many years.

In Geraldton Fred was an active member in the community, involved in the Masons and Shriners. He was an officer in the Air Cadets, a member of the fire department for 33 years, a lay reader at St. James Anglican church and he was instrumental in starting the Teen Town program. He was a lifelong learner, and had an avid interest in his genealogy.

He will be deeply missed by those whose lives he touched. A celebration of life will be held on Sunday, December 2, 2018 from noon to 3:00 pm at the South Muskoka Golf and Curling Club, Bracebridge, Ontario. For our friends and family who live in the Geraldton area, there will be a celebration of life for Fred Berday in the summer.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the South Muskoka Hospital Foundation.
