Hyde, George David 7/25/1926 - 10/5/2014. At age 88, George went into the loving arms of the Lord on Oct 5,2014. Born in Toronto, Ontario on 7/25/1926 the oldest child of George Leslie and Louisa ‘Winifred' (Lothian) Hyde, he was raised in the Metropolitan Toronto area where he became an assessor for the City of Toronto. Leaving the Assessor's office George started his own business with his wife Jean, buying a nursing home in Niagara Falls, Ontario and moving the family there. Wanting to expand George built a new nursing home in Guelph, Ontario and moved both the family and the patients to the new city, keeping the building in Niagara Falls. George would expand the nursing home in Guelph two times, making it the largest nursing home in Ontario at the time, while the building in Niagara would become a tourist home even housing the OHA Niagara Falls Flyers in 1976. Retiring in 1977, George moved his wife and two youngest sons to Sugarmill Woods in Homosassa, Florida. After more than 25 years living in Homosassa then Crystal River, Florida George and Jean returned to Ontario Canada, living in several cities including Guelph, Belwood, Bracebridge, finally ending up in Port Sydney with their eldest daughter Wendy. Over his lifetime George was responsible for designing/building/remodeling several churches in the metropolitan Toronto area, Brooksville and Holiday, Florida, and finally the Port Sydney Bible Chapel in Port Sydney, Ontario. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Jeannie (Port Sydney); his brother, Leslie Hyde; his children Danny Hinds (Calgary), Wendy (Jon) Baker (Port Sydney), Barbara (Robert) Sheach (Sudbury), William (Rene) Hyde (Whitby), James (Sandra) Hyde (Toronto), Bruce (Tammie) Hyde (Peterborough), Kenneth (Deborah) Hyde (Livonia, MI); his seventeen grandchildren; Richard, Kelly, June, George, Deborah, Christopher, Elizabeth, Meredith, Michael, Billie, Danielle, Carli, Turner, David, Alec, Daniel, Katie; his ten great-grandchildren, and his one great-great-grandchild. George was preceded in death by his brother; his parents; and his grandson Alastair Sheach. A service to remember George will be held at Deer Lake Gospel Hall in Port Sydney, ON, on Friday, October 10, 2014 at 1:00 pm. Interment to follow at Stephenson Cemetery, Port Sydney. Memorial donations to Camp Mini-Yo-We or "The Children's Home" of Zambia (c/o MSC Canada) would be appreciated.
