Gerina Niezen

Niezen, Riny (Gerina Hendrina Alberta Frederiks) March 11, 1934 - May 5, 2014 Died peacefully at the South Muskoka Memorial hospital in Bracebridge on Monday, May 5th, 2014 in her 81st year. Born in Nijemegen, Holland , daughter of Gerard & Geertruida Frederiks emigrated to Canada in 1951, moved from Toronto to Bracebridge in 1970 and was presently residing at the Pines Long term care residence. Married to Bronno J. Niezen, June 19, 1953 (died 1988). Loving mother to Trudy Niezen, Anette Peacock and Harry Niezen (Grace). Grandmother to Glen, Tanya, (Craig Reid), Josh, Joanna. Proud Great grandmother to Madison and Kayley. Sister to Hank Frederiks of Holland, Margriet & Ted Muus, Tom & Linda Frederiks. Sister in law to Edith Niezen, John & Kathy Niezen. Predeceased by her sister Trudy and Tom Maloney, brother in law Karl Niezen. Riny was an active member of First Baptist Church, and dedicated to supporting our veterans through the Royal Canadian Legion, Ladies Auxiliary & Branch 161. She acted as Ambassador for Holland on Remembrance Day, by laying a wreath in recognition of the sacrifices Canadian soldiers made in WW2. This was a very important honour to her, and she laid the wreath at the Cenotaph regardless of poor weather or health. You may have seen her behind the counter at The Mouse Hole antique store, or selling crocheted angels, or on her frequent outings to the Salvation Army thrift store. The family will receive friends at the Reynolds Funeral Home "Turner Chapel" in Bracebridge on Wednesday from 7-9 p.m. The service will be held at the 1st Baptist Church in Bracebridge on Thursday, May 8th, 2014 at 11: 00 a.m. Followed by interment Bracebridge Municipal Cemetery.
