Gordon E. Riddle Family Physician,
Civil Aviation Medical Examiner Assistant Professor, Family Medicine, NOSM, Ottawa University Pilot Husband, father, grandpa, brother, uncle, brother-in-law Gordon passed away July 24, 2013, at St. Michael's Hospital in Toronto, following a cycling accident. He is survived by his loving wife Linda Acton-Riddle, his daughters Erin Riddle (Edward Masuda) & Carol-Ann Riddle (Richard Brown), his grandson Hudson Riddle-Masuda, and his brothers Robert (Ellan) and Ernest (Jackie). Gordon was born in Burford, Ontario. At the age of 19, he joined the Air Force and trained as a radar technician, working in numerous locations across Canada. It was while stationed at Ramore, Ontario, that he met his future wife, Linda Acton, at Trinity United Church in Kirkland Lake. He left the air force and moved to Ottawa in 1968 to attend the University of Ottawa, securing first his Bachelor of Science and then going on to receive his Doctorate of Medicine in 1976. A well-respected family physician working in private practice in Orleans, as well as at local hospitals and nursing homes, Gordon went on to serve as President of the Ontario College of Family Physicians from 2001 to 2002. He realized a life-long dream of becoming a pilot in 2003, and often took friends, co-workers, and family up for flights around the area. Gordon and Linda moved to Bracebridge, Ontario, so that he could join a team of family physicians and he continued to take on students and medical residents as he enjoyed learning and sharing with them. He had a great interest in the environment and conservation, and loved canoeing at the cottage and visiting nature reserves. Avid travelers, Gordon and Linda traveled extensively throughout their marriage, visiting friends in Australia, New Zealand, across Canada and then joining a group of friends to travel more recently to Israel, China, India, Germany, Russia, and most recently again to Scotland and Ireland. He lived his life in service of others and was currently planning to travel to Africa to help diagnose women with cancer following his upcoming retirement. He was planning many things in retirement including flying his plane more, reading, and participating at international builds with Habitat for Humanity. He tried to live by the four L's - live, love, learn, leave a legacy. He will never be forgotten. Friends will be received at Reynolds Funeral Home ‘Turner Chapel', 1 Mary St., Bracebridge, ON, on Friday, August 2, 2013, from 6-9 p.m. A celebration of Gordon's life will be held at the Bracebridge United Church, 46 Dominion St, Bracebridge, ON, on Saturday, August 3, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. As your expression of sympathy, memorial donations made to Habitat for Humanity Muskoka (http://www.habitatmuskoka.com), Bracebridge United Church (http://www.bracebridgeunitedchurch.ca) or The Ronnie Fund (donations will go to the Wongonyi medical clinic - http://www.easysite.com/theronniefund) would be appreciated by the family.
