Ingrid Monika Kueper was born May 12th, 1941 in Bromberg, West Prussia to parents Ruth Hildegard and Heinrich Friedrich Wilham Peter. Ingrid crossed the Atlantic by ship in 1956 on her own, at the age of 15, to join her mother, Ruth, who had emigrated to Canada a few years earlier to secure employment.
Ingrid and her mother settled in Toronto, and after a short time, Ingrid met her future husband, Helmut, in English school. Ingrid and Helmut were married in 1959 and had children Bernard (1960), Karin (1961) and Mark (1969).
Ingrid was a wonderful mother, always doting on the three children and making sure they were well taken care of. Ingrid introduced her children to all sorts of wonderful German dishes, pizza from the Big M in Pickering, McDonald’s Big Macs, and lovely treats from the German delicatessen Saturday mornings. Ingrid became grandmother (“Oma”) to Sean, Eric, Brendan, Jaqueline, Kristian and Sarah, as well as Nadine, Yasmine and Katherine.
In later years, Oma resided at Winbourne Park in Ajax, Ontario. Oma always had a way of making you smile and laugh when you visited her. It was, of course, requisite to bring her a Tim Hortons coffee and doughnut, as well as a magazine to satisfy her voracious appetite for reading.
Oma will always be remembered as a kind and generous mother and grandmother. Ingrid passed away peacefully in her sleep on September 25th of this year.
