Janny Mulder

February 6, 1937 — October 3, 2010

It is with great sorrow and joy that we announce that on Sunday, October 3, 2010, Janny Mulder left her earthly home and went to be with her Lord and Saviour. Janny was born on February 6, 1937 in Zwartemeer, The Netherlands. She immigrated to Canada with her parents and younger brother in 1951. While the crate with all their worldly goods was shipped to their original destination of Kapuskasing, they settled in Pembroke. Their crate finally found them but by that time most of Janny and her brother's clothing were too small. Mom went to live in Weston in 1955 where she became reacquainted with Koop Mulder, the son of friends from Holland. In June of 1959 they were married and shortly after moved to Brampton. Three children were born, John, Henrietta and Jeanetta. In 1970, after a 16 month battle with leukemia, John died. This made them both stronger and with the support of their family and friends and especially their faith in God they made it through. Janny was always giving of her time and energy in order to help others. She helped prepare and serve dinners for the local Ladies Auxiliary, headed up the girls group at church, was president of the Ladies Society, lead bible studies and mentored many young moms. In order to earn some extra money she became a school bus driver, a favourite one to many of the students of John Knox Christian School in Brampton. It was when she began to pick up the children of her former students that she began to think about retiring. In 1991 Koop took an early retirement and in 1992 they moved to Bracebridge to be nearer to their grandchildren. Oma and Opa's home was always a loving, fun place to be. Janny also endeared herself to the people of Wellington Street Pentecostal Church where she attended regularly with Koop. Not only did she talk the talk but both Koop and she walked the walk. She always tried her best to practice what she preached. One of her greatest joys was seeing all three of her grandchildren involved in church and being baptized. She will be greatly missed by Koop, her husband of 51 years, her daughter Henrietta, and daughter and son-in-law Jeanetta and Jack van Leeuwen. Her three grandchildren, Luke, Kristen and Ben will especially miss teasing Oma about her beautiful, never-been-coloured, brown hair and her famous croquets. Brother Bert (Judy), brother-in-law Henk, John (Elly) and Cor (Mary) will also miss her dearly. Janny was a beautiful, humourous, loving wife, mom, Oma and friend. We can only hope that we, as her family, will be able to carry on even half of what she has done. Special thanks to all who cared for Janny during this journey home, especially Dr. Dechert, the nurses at CCAC and the many others who came to her home to care for her. You cared for her with great respect and dignity.
