Jason “Jay” Michael Lanthier
January 16, 1976 – August 6, 2024
Creative, artistic, designer, problem solver, independent, self-made, tenacious, lover of the natural world
We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Jason Michael Lanthier. Jason will forever be held in the hearts of his loving family: mother and step father Donna and Jim Ansley, father Ralph Lanthier, brothers Jeff and Derek Lanthier, stepsisters Carolyn and Jennifer Ansley. He will also be fondly remembered by his many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
Jason was born and grew up in Georgetown, Ontario where he developed a life-long passion for moto cross and all things on two wheels. His childhood fascination with machines led him to an apprenticeship position in the maintenance department of ADM Cocoa leading to his National Millwright ticket at the young age of 21. His tenure at Berger Precision enabled him to gain an extensive skill set in advanced machining and welding techniques.
Moving to Canmore, Alberta in 2003 he worked in various supervisory maintenance positions at Sunshine Village Ski Resort and Graymont Aggregates. It was in Canmore that his love of the outdoors grew -- living on the edge: riding motocross, snowmobiling and snowboarding in the Rockies. Jason’s happy place was in the mountains.
When Jason moved to Lake Country B.C. in 2009 he established JML Millwright Services Ltd. Over the next ten years his business prospered by contracting his services to a wide range of industrial clients across B.C. and Alberta.
Jason’s hard work enabled the purchase of a heritage home in Lake Country. He was very proud of the extensive improvements he made to his property which included the addition of a 1000 sq. ft. shop filled with advanced metal working machines and tools. He took great pleasure in taking care of his home and gardens.
He was happy spending time outdoors… boating on Lake Okanagan, hiking and biking on the foothills trails. He took time to appreciate the land, water and the wildlife surrounding him.
Jason began to experience physical difficulties arising from his career in harsh and demanding work environments which lead to the closing of his enterprise. Always the mechanic, he sought a mechanical solution. In late 2019 he travelled to Germany to receive radical surgery to his spine and began a 3 year rehabilitation process. He was pleased with the results and felt it was definitely the right choice for him.
Looking to create a base for other business opportunities that would be less physically demanding, he began making arrangements to return to Ontario. Sadly, his plan was not to be realized.
Jason was cremated in Kelowna and his ashes returned to his family in Ontario. Dear son, brother, friend you have found peace. You will be missed.
A private family celebration of life will take place at a later date. Memorial donations to a mental health organization of your choice would be appreciated.
