Jean Whittingham

March 17, 1926 — March 4, 2017

Jean Catherine Whittingham passed unto her Lord on March 4, 2017 in her 91st year. Born in Eden Mills, Ontario on March 17, 1926 to Marion Marshall Richardson and James David Bates, she was the sixth of ten children. In 1945, in North Bay, Jean met her knight in shining armour, Joe, when he rescued her from an uncomfortable situation at a party. Jean and Joe married in October 1946 and spent the next nearly 60 years raising seven wonderful children. Predeceased by husband Joe in 2006, son-in-law Eduardo in 2010, and daughter Catherine in 2013; Jean is survived by her brother Arthur and her children; Donald, Susan, Stanley, JoAnne (Anthony), Mary Ellen, and Pamela (Rob). She leaves nine beautiful grandchildren: Beau (Alicja), Crystal (Mike), Michael (Jasmine), Sarah (Geordie), Daniel (Jessica), Ally, Lia (Ryan), Joe and Preston and seven delightful great-grandchildren. Many thanks for the great care and companionship Jean received at Castle Peaks Retirement Residence. We would also like to thank the nurses and doctors at South Muskoka Memorial Hospital for their wonderful care. A celebration of life will be held at Bracebridge United Church on Saturday, March 11, 2017 at 3:00 p.m., with a reception following in the church hall. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The South Muskoka Memorial Hospital Foundation, the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada or a charity of your choice. Arrangements entrusted to the Reynolds Funeral Home "Turner Chapel" in Bracebridge. Messages of condolence can be made at www.reynoldsfuneral.com.
