Jeannie Hyde

November 12, 1922 — January 31, 2015

Hyde, Jeannie Flett 11/12/1922 - 1/31/2015. At age 92, Jeannie went into the loving arms of the Lord on Jan 31,2015. Born in Findochty, Scotland on 11/12/1922 the second oldest child of David and Barbara (Sutherland) Flett, she attended grade 1-8 in this small fishing village. Her family left Findochty for Aberdeen, where she finished her schooling through grade 12 as WWII started. Done with school and with the war in full swing, she left Aberdeen, Scotland for Birmingham, England to work in a gasmask factory where she spent her nights in 8'x8'x8' air-raid shelters. In 1943 she travelled with her mother and father to Buckingham Palace, where she saw the King of England present her father with the M.B.E. medal. In August of the same year Jeannie started her nursing training back in Aberdeen. She finished her training in ‘46, emigrated to Canada in ‘47, married George David Hyde in ‘48 and had her first child, David Albert, in ‘49. Six other children followed over the next 17 years. Jeannie worked as nurse in the Toronto area hospitals until she and her husband George bought a nursing home in Niagara Falls, Ontario and moved the family there in 1968. In 1971 Jeannie and the family moved to Guelph, Ontario where they had built a new nursing home (Hyde Park Nursing Home) and house on 3 acres. Jeannie was the chief nurse at each of the nursing homes and kept quite busy. In 1976, Jeannie lost both of her parents and George's mother in a month's time. The strain of the losses and the stress of the staff management eased the decision to retire. So, at age 55, Jeannie moved to Florida with her husband and two youngest sons to Sugarmill Woods in Homosassa, Florida. After more than 25 years living in Homosassa then Crystal River, Florida, Jeannie and George returned to Ontario Canada, living in several cities including Guelph, Belwood, Bracebridge, finally ending up in Port Sydney with their eldest daughter Wendy. She is survived by her brother, William Flett; her children Danny Hinds (Calgary), Wendy (Jon) Baker (Port Sydney), Barbara (Robert) Sheach (Sudbury), William (Renee) Hyde (Whitby), James (Sandra) Hyde (Toronto), Bruce (Tammie) Hyde (Peterborough), Kenneth (Deborah) Hyde (Livonia, MI); her seventeen grandchildren; Richard, Kelly, June, George, Deborah, Christopher, Elizabeth, Meredith, Michael, Billie, Danielle, Carli, Turner, David, Alec, Daniel, Katie; her ten great-grandchildren, and her one great-great-grandchild.
