Brooks, Jerrold Herman (Jerry) Jerry Brooks passed away peacefully on Saturday , August 13th, 2011 in Bracebridge in his 84th year. Jerry is survived by his dear wife of 63 years Ruth (nee McCubbin), son Dan and wife Cindy and brother George Brooks and wife Marie. He is also survived by his grandchildren Thomas Gill, Leah Garvin and husband Dennis, and Lauren Brooks and nephews Alex, Andy and David Brooks and their mother Georgia Brooks. Jerry sadly missed his beloved daughter Shelagh Elaine Gill who predeceased him, passing away in 2005. Born into the third generation of the Brooks family in Bracebridge, the son of Herman and Elaine (nee Sims), Jerry was long known in the town as a businessman and volunteer. Jerry, along with his father and brother George, founded H.J. Brooks and Sons in 1945. The firm prospered as a well known and highly successful furntiture and appliance business, and electrical contracting and supply operation for over 35 years. Jerry, a licensed electrician, oversaw the contracting entity when the firm installed much of the original power supply to many developments throughout Muskoka and northern Ontario. Today the furniture and appliance business operates as Leon's in both Bracebridge and Huntsville, under the proprietorship of nephew Andy and his wife Maureen. In 1985, Jerry entered a new and very successful career in real estate. Jerry had long standing affiliations with John Rennie Real Estate, and later Fife and Sander and Homelife. Jerry's honesty and savvy were highly regarded in the industry and indeed earned him an award as top salesperson in Muskoka.
