Margaret Prowse

Margaret Winnifred Prowse (nee Gilmore) - Passed away peacefully at Lisaard House Hospice, in Cambridge, on Tuesday, November 9, 2021, with her daughter Andrea by her side. Margaret was married to Allan Prowse for 52 years, before his death in 2011. Margaret is survived by her daughter Andrea Fronchak (Dan); her son John Prowse (Christine Staggemeier); granddaughters Josie and Emmie; and grandson Ewan.

Born to Ernest and Marjorie Gilmore on June 29, 1936, in Everett. She grew up on a farm and lived the small town life, before heading to Toronto to begin her nursing education. Upon graduating from Wellesley School of Nursing, in 1958, Margaret married Allan and they lived in Toronto for a few years before returning to his hometown of Bracebridge. After acquiring a lot for the princely sum of $800 they proceeded to build a house that would become their home for over 50 years and see them through raising a family; becoming empty nesters and ultimately retirement. Margaret worked at South Muskoka Memorial Hospital for 33 years, before retiring in 1997. She spent her retirement golfing, volunteering, and travelling around Canada.

We are very grateful to the LHIN and to the dedicated nurses, doctors, PSWs and other people that made it possible for mom to stay in her home as long as possible. When the time came, we were incredibly fortunate to have Andy's House there to help keep mom comfortable as the end came near. The staff there were truly incredible and did everything they could to ensure her comfort and quality of life. Thanks also to the wonderful staff at Lisaard House for their compassion and caring during mom's final weeks.

In keeping with Margaret's wishes, cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held at Reynolds Funeral Home, in Bracebridge, on Friday, November 19, 2021, from 2 - 4 PM and 6 – 8 PM. A private service will be held on Saturday, November 20th, 2021, at 11:00 AM. A recording of the service will be available at www.reynoldsfuneral.com, a day following the service. Interment will take place following the service, at St. Thomas Cemetery, in Bracebridge, at 12:00 noon.

Due to Covid-19 restrictions, Visitation will be conducted in half-hour intervals. All must RSVP with all names of those attending. Please RSVP below for your desired timeslot.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Andy's House, Lisaard House, or Bracebridge St. Thomas' Anglican Church and can be arranged through Reynolds Funeral Home.
