Mark Sopkowe

Friends and family are deeply saddened at the passing of Mark Sopkowe after a short battle with cancer.

He is loved and missed by his wife of 47 years, Mary, his children Emily (Alia), Tim (Tracy), Laura (Bernard), and grandchildren Everett, Annie, Felix, Marabelle, Lily and Lenny (his grand dog) and his many friends.

Mark was born and raised in Hamilton and went to the University of Western Ontario.  He started his teaching career in Waterhen, Manitoba and eventually moved back to Ontario with his family where he and his wife Mary raised their three children in Chesley and he taught in Hanover.  He finished his teaching career in the O-Pipon-Na-Piwin Cree Nation.  The time he spent there and his connection to both the children and community were a treasured time in his life.

Mark was many things to many people - a teacher, a scientist, a trekie and sci-fi fan, a gardener, a home handyman extraordinaire, a hiker, a nature lover, an outdoorsman, an islander and honorary haweater, a wine lover, a mentor, a role model, a fisherman, a music lover and a friend, but above all else, Mark was a loved and cherished grandpa/grampy, a dad and a husband.

Dearest Mark (dad, grandpa and grampy) we will love and miss you always.  We know you are with us when we feel and hear the wind through the trees.
