It is with great sadness that our family announces the passing of Martha Cavanaugh Goodale (née Phelps). Martha passed away peacefully at the South Muskoka Memorial Hospital with family at her side.
Martha was born in Toronto, lived many places with her husband Don and family. Martha returned to school to finish grade 12 after her children left the nest. Afterwards, Martha worked at the Kitchener-Waterloo Pennysaver, retiring to care for Don during his illness. Shortly afterwards, both Don and Martha moved to Muskoka to be closer to family. Martha enjoyed her retirement years after Don’s passing, keeping him in her heart. Martha also contributed many volunteer hours to the Girl Guides of Canada throughout her life – being a member of the Trefoil Guild, as well as volunteering for the local Alzheimer’s Society and she had recently joined the Order of the Eastern Star. Her favourite passion and greatest strength in life was her independence. She enjoyed bowling and travelling too.
Martha is survived by her children; Ann Goodale, Tracy Waites (Bruce), and Glen Goodale (Darlene). Martha was very proud of her grandchildren; Amy Fraser (Matt), Sarah Meder (Jake), Natalie Buttars (Mike), Curtis Goodale, Amanda Goodale (Shawn), and Adam Goodale (Brittany) as well as her great-grandchildren; Audrey and Eli, Evelyn and Calvin, Jordan, Nathan and Annabelle, Hailey and Dylan, and Lexie and Reed.
Martha will also be remembered by her brothers George and Michael Phelps and their families, as well as many other extended family members and her many friends.
We rest now that Martha has joined her late husband Donald Goodale, her mother Daphne Kerr, and her father Ray Phelps, knowing she can fill them in on events they missed, reminiscing, having a drink and being together again.
Glen and Darlene would like to especially thank the ICU unit at SMMH for their care of Martha in her final hours, with special thanks going to Sam, Kalli and Ruth for their compassion and care of Martha as she was passing.
Cremation has taken place. Interment will be held at 1p.m. on Saturday, November 6, 2021 at Mickle Cemetery, Gravenhurst. Due to Covid-19 RSVP for attendance at the graveside is required and can be done below.
In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations in Martha’s memory be made to the ICU of SMMH https://www.healthmuskoka.ca/ or another charity of your choice and can be arranged through Reynolds Funeral Home.
