With sadness and much love, we share the passing of Mary Patricia McKenzie (O’Neill) at South Muskoka Memorial Hospital on May 10, 2022, at the age of 88 years.
She will be lovingly remembered by many who held a special place in her heart: her children: Rob (Cheryl), Mary Lou Lefler (Tim), Lori Anne Tingey (Ian); grandchildren Megan, Brandon, Brent, Cody, Caitlynn and Alexandra; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She will also be dearly missed by her loyal friends, former colleagues, members of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, and staff and residents of Castle Peak Retirement Home.
She was predeceased by her loving husband of 56 years, John; brother, Jack O’Neill; and sister Norah Arthur.
Mary was currently residing at Castle Peak Retirement Home in Bracebridge. Prior to this she and John devoted their time to their home and to travel. She was always planning another vacation, sometimes with John and friends and sometimes with the entire family. Mary thoroughly enjoyed spending time with those she loved and could often be found on her side deck entertaining with a glass of wine in one hand and a cigarette in the other. Mary also had a love for music and spent many years involved with choirs and playing the organ/piano both with the church and at Castle Peak. Mary loved to help others and she had a very successful career as a Dietitian, spending several years at the South Muskoka Memorial Hospital, where she met and worked with wonderful colleagues.
The family wishes to send a special thank you to the staff at Castle Peak Retirement Home for creating a warm welcoming home for Mary and for providing many years of care. Also, many thanks to the nursing staff at South Muskoka Hospital for their compassion and support of Mary over the past month.
