NICHOLSON, Mary Teresa Adelaide McGurk, died on August 17, 2014, while in hospice care at South Muskoka Hospital. Born on July 29, 1926, she was the widow of George Edward Nicholson. She was the daughter of Edward James McGurk and Mary Ann Callaghan McGurk. Her birth was preceded by the death of brothers John and Niall who she never knew. Her brothers Gerard, Maurice, Edward and Peter all predeceased her. Sadly, at age three, her mother, Mary Ann, departed this life. She is survived by sons Geoffrey and Christopher, daughters-in-law Billie and Norrie, grandsons James and Brian, granddaughters Lisa and Tracy, great-granddaughters Stephanie and Angelina, and an extended family in the U.K., Europe, the U.S., and elsewhere in the former Empire. She joined the Auxiliary Territorial Service during World War II and later moved to Germany where her husband was stationed with the Rifle Brigade. In 1963 the family emigrated to Connecticut and then, in the early 1980's, George and Terry moved to Port Carling, Ontario. They enjoyed their Canadian life. Chris and I offer our thanks to the staff at James Street Place, South Muskoka Hospital, Dr. Karen Martin, the people of Bracebridge and environs. A funeral service will be held in Liverpool followed by the interment of her ashes in the grave of Niall, John, and her mother, Mary Ann.
