George Michael (Mike) Doiron
May 22, 1954 — October 11, 2022
It is with great sadness that we, the family of Michael Doiron announce his passing at The Pines
in Bracebridge, Ontario in his 69th year.
Born in Ottawa, May 22, 1954, Mike was the son of the late Lt. Colonel Leo Gregory Doiron and
Eleanor Lorraine LaVie. In his youth as an “army brat”, Mike travelled extensively with his family
in Canada, the United States and overseas to Israel, Jordan, Syria and Lebanon where his
father served with the United Nations.
Mike attended York University in Toronto in the early seventies, after which he moved to Alberta
where he worked for the Calgary Herald and Financial Post for many years. He was also
employed by Canada Post. Mike developed many close friendships during those years and a
very close bond with his father. He also continued to travel and pursue his passion for sports,
collecting memorabilia from events such as the Calgary Olympics in 1988, the Calgary Flames’
Stanley Cup win and, of course, everything related to the Stampeders. Mike lived his life to the
fullest and we will miss his wonderful sense of humour and the fun he brought to every family
gathering.
After retirement, Mike moved to Bracebridge, Ontario to be with his brother, Paul and family.
Mike was predeceased by his parents and his Aunt Geraldine. Left to mourn are his two
brothers Bill (Mary Lynne) and Paul (Martha) and nephews Jason, James and Gregory.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mike’s memory to the Canadian Alzheimer Society.
