After a long full life, we lost an amazing, loving father and grandfather on March 18, 2024, Murray John Ellis passed away peacefully at the age of 85 at Andy’s House in Port Carling. Murray will be forever missed by his children, Linda (the late Rick) Bell, Tim (Carol), Stephen (Mary), and Judy (Mark) Hillman: his grandchildren, Kyle (Jules), Nathan (Shelby), Ashley (Kyle) Cuss, Joshua (Joy), Greg, Bradley, Megan and James (Stephanie); and their families. Murray was predeceased by his loving wife of 61 years, Shirley. He was the son of the late Jack and Evelyn Ellis (Brown), and son-in-law of the late Leslie and Pearl Goodfellow. Murray is also predeceased by his brothers Allan and Robert and leaves behind his brother Brian.
Murray was born on June 18, 1938. He married the love of his life Shirley on April 11, 1958. Murray enjoyed his life to the fullest and had a story to tell if you had the time to listen, and maybe even if you didn’t. He was a member of the 1959 Intermediate “C” Bracebridge Bears championship hockey team. Among many of the jobs he had over his life the most prominent were the Bracebridge Power House, Ecclestone’s Hardware, and French’s Appliances. Possibly his proudest moment was when he opened his own appliance store, Murray Ellis Appliances, and made it one of the best appliance stores in Muskoka for over 20 years. Murray was a member of the Bracebridge Fire Department for over 30 years, retiring as the Deputy Fire Chief. Murray leaves some great memories for each of his children to remember him by.
A huge thank you goes out to the wonderful staff at James Street Place where Dad lived for the last year and the amazing, caring, staff and volunteers at Andy’s House who were so kind and compassionate with Dad in his short time there. You all will forever hold a special place in the hearts of Murray’s family.
As per Murray’s wishes, there will be no funeral, and cremation has taken place.
