Archer, Norman died peacefully at the South Muskoka Memorial Hospital in Bracebridge on Thursday, December 31st, 2009. As interested as ever and still smokin', at age 97 Born May 16th, 1912 on Browning Island, Lake Muskoka, to Charles Wesley and Frances Archer. Grandson of William, Great grandson of Marmaduke who came to what was to become Bracebridge in 1866. Norman was predeceased by wife Hilda (1936) and wife Irene (2000); son, Alan (1982); sisters Grace, Audrey, Laura and brother , Wilbur. Norman is survived by his daughter, Nancy Thompson (Brian),and sister, Gladys MacLeod of Calgary. He had three grandsons Wesley, Geoffrey and Ian and three great grandsons of Ryan, Brayden and Parker. Nieces and nephews include Audrey's children Marty and Tom; Gladys' children Jim and Susan; Laura's children Bob and Elizabeth; Wilbur's children Judy, Cindy, John, Mary and Jennifer. Norman was ever pleased that John Archer and his family have maintained a family home on Browning Island, Lake Muskoka. Norman served with the RCAF overseas for four years with a night fighter squadron 410 and later bomber squadron 427. Norman served some 27 years as Councilor for Township of Muskoka and later Town of Bracebridge. He served on first District of Muskoka Council as well as 17 years on the South Muskoka Hospital Board. A quiet man. Friends will be received at the Reynolds Funeral Home "Turner Chapel" in Bracebridge on Thursday from 7-9 p.m. with a Masonic Lodge service at 7:00 p.m. A Memorial Service will be held at Bracebridge United Church on Friday, January 8th, 2010 @ 1:00 p.m.. Donations may be made to the South Muskoka Hospital Foundation.
