Norman Bernard Iding

December 9, 1939 — July 10, 2024

Bracebridge

Norman Bernard Iding was born on December 9, 1939, and died on July 10, 2024, after a brief illness.

Norm is predeceased by his father, Jacobus James John Iding, his mother Irene Evelyn Boyd, stepmother Carroll Gould and his brother Jack (Marguerite). Left to mourn and to celebrate Norm’s 84 years are his wife of 59 years, Beverley Iding (nee Cleland), daughter Lynn (Sandra Thomson), son John (MaryAnne), grandson Graham and granddaughter Bethany, along with extended family and dear friends.

While he was raised on a farm, Norm moved on to working at a bank in Toronto and a brief stint in Kapuskasing, and then eventually for Ontario Hydro where he spent the rest of his career, taking early retirement at 54.

As a young lad, Norm met his soulmate, Beverley Cleland. They eventually wed and built a loving life together, raising two kids and living in Brampton, Niagara Falls and retiring in Muskoka. Norm took pleasure in the little things in life. He always had a repertoire of “dad jokes”, which he would tell to anyone he could corner. He loved Muskoka, and in his later years would enjoy volunteering at the hospital, and activities with the Lions Club and Probus Club. He was at his happiest when he was chatting with friends or strangers or going for drives and getting take-out with Bev. He loved spending time with his grandchildren, and visiting his daughter in Nova Scotia. He always had a story to tell, and had an endless curiosity about everything from the philosophical to the mundane. Norm passed away on the date of his and Bev’s 59th wedding anniversary.

The family would like to thank the nurses, doctors, PSWs, unit aids and staff at the South Muskoka Regional Hospital for their compassionate care, and for Norm and Bev’s friends – particularly Al, Gary, Grace, Marg and niece Kerry who checked in and provided support. Donations to the South Muskoka Hospital Foundation in Norm’s memory would be gratefully accepted.

A celebration of life will take place at a future date.
