Reverend Derek John Craig
“Set me free from my prison, that I may praise your name.” – Psalm 142:7
With deep love and gratitude for a life well-lived, we announce that Reverend Derek John Craig entered into the presence of the Lord on February 17, 2025, at South Muskoka Memorial Hospital in Bracebridge. He was 80 years old.
Derek was the beloved spouse of Jacqueline and the cherished father of Jacqueline. He was predeceased by his parents, Ernest and Joan Craig, and his brother, Graham. He is lovingly remembered by his sisters, Ann and Gwen.
Derek’s journey of faith began on December 7, 1975, at 10am when he was in prison at the Chapel Service; he gave his life to Jesus Christ, accepting Him as his Lord and Savior. Anointed by God, Derek embraced a calling to bring the Gospel to those in prison, dedicating his life to ministering to men and women behind bars. Through his testimony and unwavering faith, countless lives were transformed. His favorite scripture, Psalm 142:7, became the foundation of his ministry: “Set me free from my prison, that I may praise your name. Then the righteous will gather about me because of your goodness to me.”
In September 1980, Derek was ordained as a Minister of the Gospel with The Pentecostal Holiness Church of Canada. His ministry extended beyond the walls of prison, touching lives of many. In August 2011, he became the Chaplain of a large international prison ministry, furthering his mission to bring hope and redemption to those in need.
Beyond his ministry, Derek was a man of many accomplishments. In October 1985, he achieved one of his greatest personal milestones—his first solo flight to France. He was also the President of General Magnaplate Canada, Ltd., and pursued legal studies at George Brown College to become a paralegal.
From June 2001 until his passing, Derek resided at The Pines Long-Term Care Home, where he continued to inspire others with his faith and resilience.
Reverend Derek John Craig’s legacy is one of redemption, faith, and unwavering dedication to God’s calling. His message of hope will continue to live on in the many lives he touched.
A celebration of his life will be announced at a later date.
