Robert "Bob" Stanley Burton,
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Bob Burton of Baysville on Tuesday, April 1st at the age of 94. Bob is lovingly remembered by his wife of 63 years, Shirley, daughter Sara Roper, son-in-law Jim, grandsons Michael and Chris, family members and friends.
Bob grew up in North Bay, leaving school early to work and support his parents. As a young man, he began working for Kraft Foods, which started a lifelong career of travelling and selling. He founded his own company, R. S. Burton Sales Limited. He was a manufacturer’s agent, offering confectionery, canned goods, cleaning supplies, and stationery to stores and warehouses throughout northern Ontario and Quebec. In 1970, the family moved to Sudbury to be closer to Bob’s customers.
He was always deeply involved in the Anglican Church wherever he lived. In Sudbury, he served as a warden at the Church of Epiphany and was a member of the Phoenix committee overseeing the church's rebuilding after the devastating fire. In Baysville, Bob continued as a warden and chaired the committee for the expansion of St. Ambrose, where he and Shirley were married in 1961.
Bob and Shirley retired to Baysville in 1988, returning to live in the house where Shirley was born, running a bed and breakfast for over 25 years. Bob enjoyed meeting new people and interacting with them, and many guests returned year after year.
We will miss his humour and humanity. He was fiercely proud of his family and immensely enjoyed the many family trips we took. Everyone he met became a friend, and he always found ways to help those around him.
We would like to thank the remarkable staff at the Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre in Barrie and the South Muskoka Memorial Hospital in Bracebridge for their exceptional care and support of Dad and the family.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Lake of Bays Anglican Parish or the South Muskoka Memorial Hospital Foundation.
A celebration of life will be held at St. Ambrose Anglican Church, 2671 Muskoka District Road 117, Baysville, Ontario, on Friday, May 2, 2025, at 2 pm.
