Rolf Soja
April 23, 1947 - October 9, 2018
Rolf passed away peacefully at his home in the Township of Muskoka Lakes on October 9th, 2018. Beloved husband for 48 years of Marie-Luise (nee Thurmann). Devoted father to Sam (Trisha), Christopher (Ivana), Jonathan and Benjamin. Dearly missed by his two grandchildren Evan and Ryan. Predeceased by his parents Josef and Gertrud (nee Sikorsky) and his sister Margit.
Born in Germany (Soest), Rolf became a skilled pianist at a very young age and studied the piano and violin at the Music Academy in Detmold. Upon graduating he became a successful music composer and producer working with many European and international musical artists. Out of his many achievements, his greatest success came with the Spanish duo, Baccara. Their hit 'Yes Sir, I can Boogie', rose to No. 1 on the Billboard charts throughout Europe and became one of the best selling singles in history.
In 1982, Rolf moved with his family to Muskoka, Canada where he continued to compose and produce music for the European market. Rolf will be especially remembered for his boundless and infectious sense of humour, his patient demeanour, and his devotion to his family.
Friends and family are invited to join a Celebration of Life at Patterson-Kaye Lodge on Friday October 19th from 2:00 - 5:00 pm, with a short service beginning at 2:30 pm.
As an expression of sympathy, memorial donations to the Monck Public School Children's Music Program would be appreciated by the family. Donations can be made by cash or cheque directly to Monck Public School, 250 Wellington Street, Bracebridge, ON P1L 1C1. Cheques should be made payable to "TLDSB in Trust", with memo reference to MPS - Children's Music Program. Online donations can be made to the Trillium Lakelands District School Board (TLDSB) via the Reynolds Funeral Home website. In the 'Notes to the Charity' field please write "Monck Public School Music Program in Memory of Rolf Soja". Tax receipts will be issued for any donations over $25.
