Ruth Pryce

Pryce, Ruth Fairfax (nee Collyer) Who died peacefully on Thursday, February 13th, 2014 at The Pines Long Term Care Residence in Bracebridge. Ruth was born on July 26th, 1916 in Clinton, Ontario and grew up in London where, at 17, she met Mel whom she married in 1940. The war had them living on R.C.A.F. bases in New Brunswick and Manitoba where Mel taught navigation. They settled in London where Mel, an Actuary with the London Life, in time became vice president and general manager. Ruth as a busy homemaker, active in her community, throughout her life. She was involved in civil defence education, the I.O.D.E., New St. James Church and later as a member of the board of directors of University Hospital. Ruth and Mel shared an enthusiasm for golf and the London Hunt & Country Club was the centre of their social life. Ruth was known for her positive attitude, her sense of humour and her love of entertaining her many friends. Cooking was her passion and her reputation as a gourmet chef was well deserved. In 1999 Ruth moved to Muskoka where she replaced golf with gardening and long country walks. She enjoyed playing in several bridge clubs with her new friends in Bracebridge. Ruth was predeceased by her husband Mel in 1988 and in 2004 by her daughter, Mary Jane Iddon (Ron) of Perth, Australia. She is survived by her daughter Barbara Pryce of Bracebridge, her grandchildren Rhys Iddon and Marissa Pidgeon (Andrew) and her great grandsons Benjamin and Lachlan Pidgeon, all of Perth, Australia. A graveside service was held at Mount Pleasant Cemetery in London, Ontario.
