Peacefully with her family by her side on Sunday, September 13, 2020 at the South Muskoka Memorial Hospital in her 75th year.
Wendy was born on July 7th, 1946, the youngest of seven children in the Brewer family. She spent her early years in Toronto but soon moved to Washago with her mother and brother, Bill. Wendy fell in love with life in the country and was happy to return after a decade as a sixth-grade teacher. While teaching in Toronto, Wendy met Dave Lawton, a teacher from Liverpool whom she married in 1974. Two years later they moved back to Washago then on to settle permanently in the Bracebridge area. Wendy then taught for the Muskoka Board where she was influential in the establishment of the Special Education Program. Although she taught some secondary, Wendy spent most of her career as a teacher, vice principal and principal in the elementary schools, retiring in 1998.
While gardening kept her active, Wendy, ever the seeker, spent her retirement years enjoying reading, yoga, meditation and participating in study groups. She engaged in charitable works with her friends in the congregation of Pinegrove Fellowship Church.
Wendy was the consummate hostess and generous companion. She readily welcomed her many friends whether they sought her entertaining company, her sage advice, or the comfort of her loving heart. Certainly, all enjoyed the delights of her ever-abundant kitchen.
Wendy is survived by her husband Dave Lawton, her brother Bill Brewer (Vera) of Wasaga Beach, her beloved “sister” niece Cathy Scott of Thornhill, nephew Bill Harman of Utah and many other nieces and nephews.
Donations in memory of Wendy may be made to Faith’s Orphans or Pinegrove Fellowship Church both at http://www.pinegrovefellowship.com/ or to the Bracebridge SPCA https://ontariospca.ca/muskoka/
