William Wright

Dr. William James Wright passed away peacefully at Leisureworld Caregiving Centre in Gravenhurst on Thursday, July 10, 2014 in his 85th year. Beloved husband of Joyce (nee Akeroyd). Dear father of Barry, Fraser, David and Martha. Proud grandfather of Edward , William, Rosemary, Emily, Stephanie and Alexandra. Dear brother of Frances Hayter and Louise Emmanuel. Son of the late William and Rena Wright. Dr. Wright had a long history of service in Muskoka, opening his first medical practice in 1957 in Port Carling, with a second office opening soon after in Bracebridge. Dr. Wright also served as Coroner for Muskoka/Parry Sound during this time. In 1971 Dr. Wright was the first family physician in Muskoka to achieve certification in the field of family medicine. Concerned that the sick and elderly would be able to remain in the comfort of their own homes, Dr. Wright was a firm believer in providing â�œold timeâ₝ house calls, making his visits to his patients by boat or car as necessary. Dr. Wright received the coveted Order of St. John award in 1996. He was awarded Emeritus status by the Ontario College of Physicians and Surgeons upon his retirement in 2005. A Celebration of Life will take place on Friday, October 10th, 2014 from 12:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. at the Port Carling Legion.
